TORY AND LIB DEM COUNCILLORS FAIL TO SUPPORT OUR CAMPAIGN

Posted on August 25, 2008. Filed under: Housing News |

Justice Not Crisis emailed all 120 Birmingham City councillors. So far only two have supported our campaign, both from the Labour Party.

Tory councillor Peter Dougals Osborn sent an email suggesting we look up the meaning of the word “justice”. We looked at the Compact Oxford English Dictionary on line and it gives the meanijg of the word justice as “just behaviour or treatment”.

We think that refusing to sell land to Housing Associations at an affordable price so that they can build homes for some of the 30,000 applicants on the councilds waiting list is an injustice that should be put right.

BRUM MAY LOSE £100 MILLION IN HOUSNG GRANTS

Posted on August 15, 2008. Filed under: Housing News |

The government have allocated Birmingham £130m in grants to help Housing Associations build new homes for social rent. Of this only £30m has been given out leaving £100m unused.

As with any grant if it isn’t used it wil be lost to housing projects in other parts of the country.

Grants of around  £50,000 per property are presently being allocated so £100m would build 2,000 plus new homes over the next 3 years.

With more than 30,000 on the council’s waiting list why won’t the council release land to the Housing Associations so they can build much needed new homes for social rent?
